At the 7th International Smart Factory Summit 2026 in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland, the future of Industry 5.0 took center stage. Under the theme “Human-Centricity, Sustainability and Resilience,” international experts discussed how digital technologies can foster human-centered, sustainable, and resilient manufacturing.
As part of a technical presentation, Dr. Johannes be Isa, Managing Director of the technology partner INOYAD, presented innovative approaches to remanufacturing. The presentation focused on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digital Twins to enhance transparency across the value chain, enable more accurate assessment of material and product conditions, and support data-driven decision-making. These approaches aim to improve the efficiency of remanufacturing processes, conserve resources, and strengthen the circular economy in a sustainable way.
The presentation attracted considerable interest. During the subsequent Q&A session, an engaging technical discussion developed with the international audience. The numerous questions and discussions highlighted that the challenges surrounding the circular economy, process reliability, and sustainable manufacturing are not only relevant in Europe but are of global importance. At the same time, the dialogue confirmed the growing demand for practical digital solutions that enable resource-efficient, resilient, and future-proof industrial value creation. This is precisely where the Circulytics research project comes in.
The objective of the project is to improve the economic viability of remanufacturing through the targeted use of digital technologies. Its integrated approach combines product quality assessment at the incoming goods inspection stage with resource planning within a seamless digital system. This enables informed, data-driven decision-making throughout the entire value chain.
